"Rainbow Serpent" is an English collective label for related but distinct ancestral beings - Ngalyod to the Kunwinjku, Wagyl to the Noongar, Ngatyi to the Barkandji - who shape waterways, carry rain, and mark the land as formed by ancestral presence rather than empty ground.
